This year's TORCH Benefit & L.I.G.H.T. Awards will be a special one for us as our very own Steve Bryan, Associate Developer, is a 2012 Honoree.

TORCH is dedicated to transforming the lives of underserved New York City public high school students by providing intensive exposure to career training and opportunities in communications and the arts, all while facilitating a meaningful way of increasing the diversity of the workforce in those industries. TORCH Executive Director Debi Deutsch has this to say about Steve being honored:

"Steve's TORCH story goes back to his joining TORCH in 2000. As first an outstanding participant and then alum Steve has a longstanding history of commitment to the program. Upon graduation from High School Steve through TORCH 's nomination became the first recipient of a college scholarship from the Prescott Fund for Children and Youth. The foundation, so impressed with him, decided to broaden the scholarship and offer it to more students throughout the years. Over 10 TORCH alum throughout the years have received a multi year $5K college scholarship from Prescott. Steve has gone on to career success at Onboard Informatics, TORCH Board Member Marc Siden's company. Lastly, and very importantly, Steve has maintained contact with TORCH as an alum throughout the years, always ready to advocate for the program and volunteer."

We are proud to be a TORCHlight sponsor and hope that our friends in the NYC area will join us at Yotel on November 15 to celebrate the occasion along with host Shelley Wade. The storm may have come through but in the spirit of the event, TORCH is pressing on as they have for the past thirteen years.

Onboard has worked with five TORCH interns since the company’s birth. Steve had this to say about TORCH:

“I can honestly say that TORCH has been one of the most positive impacts of my life. I was able to acquire many career skills and professional experiences through the TORCH program. I had the tremendous opportunity of working with Forbes Magazine as well as other top rated communication and art businesses. More importantly, TORCH provides assistance and guidance with the college application process, as well as college visits for participants."

All of us look forward to congratulating Steve and getting together for a fabulous night of celebrating TORCH's work, students, and alums. See you at Yotel on November 15!
