The Four Steps of Content Marketing: A New Onblog Series


The theme at this year’s Inman Connect seemed to be local content marketing.  The keynote speaker was Seth Godin, best-selling author and 2013 inductee of the Direct Marketing Hall of Fame.  For the first time, the conference included a Digital Marketing Track that was so popular several rows of chairs had to be added within minutes of the session’s start. This year, it wasn’t just about customer experience or the latest technology or building better systems – it was how agents, brokers, and real estate franchises could foster those things to resonate with target consumers.  In a word – the industry seems to be asking what they have to do to win.

“Marketing is a contest for people’s attention,” Seth Godin.

If you’re interested in winning the mindshare of your target customer, there are four key things to consider:

  • What you’re going to say
  • Who you’re going to say it to
  • How you’re going to deliver the message
  • When you’re going to deliver the message

Over the next few weeks, Onboard will be offering an Onblog series to address each step of this process.   Short posts that can provide an outline of how to tackle each task.  It doesn’t have to be complicated.  Like any race – sometimes it’s just a matter of putting one foot in front of the other.  We’re hoping to provide a path so winning people’s attention seems attainable…. even fun!
