Onboard’s IDX Listings API has been around since 2009, but when RESO (the Real Estate Standard Organization) formalized the new "Web API" standard earlier this year, we started working on a new standards-based version. It would be pretty difficult for us NOT to support the standard since I'm the chair of the RESO group responsible for defining it! We will officially roll out the BETA version of a new API version that supports the emerging RESO Web API Standard, based on the OData Version 3.0 specification, at the RESO Fall Meeting and PlugFest (http://www.reso.org/fall-mtg) next month. This will give developers the ability to try out the API, ask questions and provide feedback to both Onboard and the RESO workgroup.
The API is designed to work the same way across all MLSs supported thanks to both the RESO Web API 1.0.1 and the RESO Data Dictionary 1.3 standards. As with Onboard's existing Listings API Platform, the new RESO-standard-supporting API will support over 100 MLSs including NYC, as announced last month.
For developers, this RESTful API will provide a single, standardized way of integrating IDX data in real-time. It will also allow you to take advantage of existing OData client toolkits plus we'll have pre-integrations for .Net, Android and other environments.
For MLSs it can provide a way to quickly support RESO standards and offer real-time access to IDX data without having to re-tool their systems. If you're an MLS and want to make your data available for BETA testing at the RESO Plug Fest, please contact me to see what we can arrange.
We hope to see many industry veterans and newcomers at the RESO Fall Meeting. It will be a great chance to see all the standards working together and to discover how we're making it easier to develop, test and deploy new apps for the real estate community.
If you haven't signed up yet for the RESO Fall Conference (you don't need to be a member to attend) contact Onboard for an exclusive discount code. We'd love to see you there!
