In Dave Crumby’s REAL: A Path to Passion, Purpose, and Profits in Real Estate, the monotonous business anthems are tossed aside. Replacing it are the inspirational business practices, life lessons, and points of view from eighteen of today’s top real estate business leaders - including some words from our CEO, Marc Siden. The book’s inspirational message begins on line one with Doorstep founder Michele Serro’s motivation upon entering the real estate industry, “Like so many hardworking folks, I began my career dreaming of having some kind of meaningful impact on the world – building something interesting, something important, something needed, something that would begin as mine, quickly become ours, and with luck would one day become everyone’s.”
The book goes on with today’s real estate leaders categorizing real estate as a craft – not a job. They discuss the importance in maintaining meaningful relationships with everyone around you and finding the equilibrium between your professional and personal life. In Marc Siden’s chapter, Adaptation, the importance of upholding those meaningful relationships in difficult times is vital for a company’s survival. As Marc says it, “over 80% of us [startups] fail in our first few years. If you don’t embrace the reality that today could be your last day in business, you are likely to become a statistic”.
